  • A single copy of a chapter or excerpt from a book
  • Photocopies of single journal or newspaper articles (made by Reserves staff or supplied by instructor)
  • Solutions, handbooks, lecture notes, class readings, etc. (supplied by instructors)
  • Exams/quizzes from previous semesters (supplied by instructors)
  • Course syllabi

The Library will not accept the following for print reserve:

  • Multiple chapters from the same book unless copyright permission is supplied in advance
  • Multiple articles from the same journal or newspaper unless copyright permission is supplied in advance
  • Consumables (e.g. standardized tests, workbooks, answer sheets, or other commercially available materials)

Other Guidelines for Print Reserves:

  • 8.5" x 11" formatted copies with a 1" margin on all 4 sides
  • No holes, no staples
  • Indicate the circulation status preferred for each item. Library-owned materials may circulate for 1-hour, 2-hour, 4-hour, 24-hour, 3-day, or 7-day periods and may go out of the building, according to professor request.
  • Requestor must indicate circulation status preferred and whether in building or out of building is permitted. Include a complete bibliographic citation for the work from which the copies were made.

Recalls - If a library book on your reserves list has been checked out, we will place a recall on that item.

Orders - If the library does not currently own an item on your reserves list, we will place a "rush order" for reserves, when possible. Rush orders may take as long as 30 days.
