Electronic Reserves
All materials placed on electronic reserve will be at the initiative of faculty solely for the non-commercial, educational use of students. Electronic reserves services are limited to the TAMU community (faculty, staff, students).
The following materials may be placed on electronic reserve for non-consecutive semesters under Educational Fair Use:
- Non-copyright materials such as solutions, handbooks, lecture notes, class readings, etc. (supplied by instructors)
- Excerpts from government publications
- An excerpt from a monograph that constitutes a limited and reasonable amount of the total work.
- Course syllabi
The Library will not accept the following for electronic reserve without seeking copyright permission (and potentially paying royalties for the use):
- Whole books or an excessive amount of a monographic work
- Multiple articles from the same journal issue or newspaper
- Consumables (e.g. standardized tests, workbooks, answer sheets, or other commercially available materials)
The Libraries will also seek copyright permission for materials that are being used for electronic reserve for consecutive semesters.
- The library will always follow the principles of Fair Use when placing materials on reserve.
- Copyright notice will appear on the screen in the Course Reserves System and on copies of copyrighted materials made for reserve reading to indicate that copyright law covers the materials.
Other Guidelines for Electronic Reserves:
- Whenever possible, the Libraries will purchase materials to be copied.
- For paper copies submitted for scanning, there can be no holes and no staples. Please submit clean, first-generation copies with NO BLACK MARGIN OR CENTER STRIPE, 8.5" x 11" only with one-half inch margin on all 4 sides.
- Incomplete bibliographic citations will result in delay of processing of materials.
- There will be no charge for access to electronic reserves. The charge for copies made by students on library laser printers will be the same as for all other self-service library printing and photocopying
Electronic materials will be removed from the Course Reserves System at the end of each semester, unless other arrangements have been made.
