WCL History
The West Campus Library is a state of the art facility (for 1992-1994) which was designed for electronic flexibility to accommodate rapid changes in technology.
- It is comprised of 45,000 square feet within three floors and incorporates an extensive array of electronic resources.
- Although initially conceived as a library without books, it now houses a core collection of reference titles and a five year rotating collection of circulating materials.
- The contemporary design is the work of John E. Focke, principle architect with Ray Bailey Architects, Inc. of Houston.
- Design efforts focused on humanizing technology and the spaces within the building to make them more social, interactive, and visual
When opened in August 1994, it supported the faculty and students in the College of Business Administration and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. |

- The opening was planned in coordination with the move of the College of Business Administration, which was originally housed in the Blocker Building, to the newly built Wehner Building.
- The creation of a branch library on west campus also recognized the research needs of the departments of Agriculture and Life Sciences which had previously moved away from the main campus.
In 2005 the West Campus Library’s mission was refined to focus on the educational and research needs of the Mays College of Business.
